22 union apprenticeship pathways

Through the registered apprenticeship programs of our 22 affiliated local unions, you can earn a wage from day 1. Your pay increases as your skill does, and you finish with a journeyworker credential rather than a student loan.

Boilermaker

Build and install boilers and large pressure vessels in power generation, paper mills, and refineries.

Bricklayer

Build walls, structures, and facades in brick, block, and stone.

Carpenter

Frame and finish commercial and industrial structures in wood, metal, and concrete from blueprints.

Electrician

Install and maintain electrical and power systems, from commercial buildings to industrial robotics.

Elevator Constructor

A rare and demanding skill set with excellent wages. Nearly every building in Atlanta needs one.

Heavy Equipment Operator

Move earth and materials with state-of-the-art machinery, using load calculations and crane operations.

HVACR Technician

Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

Insulator

Install insulation on piping, HVAC, and process systems, saving energy and cutting emissions.

Ironworker

Place and install the steel girders and columns that form the skeleton of everything around us.

Laborer

A hands-on entry point to the industry and a proven route into the other trades.

Millwright

Assemble, align, and repair heavy machinery on construction sites and in factories.

Painter / Glazier

Apply protective and decorative finishes, or cut and install glass for buildings and art.

Pipefitter

Plan and install the pipe systems that carry water, chemicals, and gases through major facilities.

Plasterer / Cement Mason

Shape durable surfaces and structures in concrete, block, and stone.

Plumber

Design and install water distribution and waste systems, and connect heating and cooling.

Roofer

Install and repair the roofing and waterproofing systems that keep every building dry, from low-slope commercial to steep residential.

Sheet Metal Worker

Fabricate and install ductwork, architectural metal, and industrial systems from flat stock — shop and field.

Sprinklerfitter

Install and maintain the fire-protection piping and sprinkler systems that commercial buildings cannot open without.

Teamster

Drive and operate the trucks and equipment that move materials, machinery, and crews onto and around the job site.

How apprenticeship works

Earn while you learn

Paid from day one

An apprentice is an employee, not a student. You are on a payroll the week you start, with scheduled raises as you progress.

Classroom plus on the job

Apprenticeship pairs paid field work with related classroom instruction through a Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.

A credential that travels

Completing a registered apprenticeship makes you a journeyworker, a credential that is recognized nationally, not just by one employer.
